Development in Romania

Thanks to our philosophy of following our customers into new markets, in 2012 we opened a new plant close to the site of the first FORD plant in Eastern Europe: in Craiova, Romania. The production facility was established within a year, with the support of an international KIRCHHOFF Automotive team from Germany, Poland, and Ireland.

Since mid-2012, KIRCHHOFF Automotive has been suppling the cross car beam and a variety of otherwise complex body-in-white components, along with front and rear bumpers, for our customer Ford. The key facts about the production facility are: 15,800 m² of production and logistics area, state-of-the-art robot welding technology, and JIT deliveries every two hours. This is one of the largest new start-up project that KIRCHHOFF Automotive has realised.

In 2014, the plant in Craiova received its ISO/TS 16949:2009 and ISO 14001:2004 certification. Thanks to the consistently high quality of the products supplied to our customers, this certification was followed by the highest achievement FORD awards to its suppliers—the Q1 status as preferred supplier.

In May 2019 the second KIRCHHOFF Automotive plant in Romania at the Piteşti site was officially opened. The plant was built according to the latest Lean standards and the team implemented the Industry 4.0 platform in the production area. 90 different parts for passenger cars and commercial vehicles for the customers Volkswagen, Daimler, Ford and PSA are produced there.
