VW crisis: Should suppliers be worried?

If a supplier is dependent on diesel components, it would harm them, not us”, says Arndt Kirchhoff.

It looks like the dark clouds over the VW headquarters in Wolfsburg could be making their way to Südwestfalen. In the region of ‘middle class’ suppliers, executives are carefully watching the actions of the crisis management team in Niedersachsen. The most recent events at VW have created much unrest among the staff. Apprehension is definitely in the air, and the only sense of relief comes from knowing that the majority of manufacturers in the area produce body and chassis parts and not just components for the exhaust system of diesel vehicles.

“If a supplier is dependent on diesel components, it would harm them, not us”, says Arndt Kirchhoff, CEO of KIRCHHOFF Automotive. VW is one of many KIRCHHOFF Automotive customers. Arndt Kirchhoff therefore is unconcerned: “Customers may no longer buy a VW, but they will buy another car. To us, it does not matter which.”
